Ulimacho huvunacho is a Swahili saying, which means “what you sow, you will reap.”
The Ulimacho huvunacho program will be a democratically organized vocational school for teen parents, housed in a Baltimore City Public School. Adolescents will bring their infant children to the school for safe, certified child care, while they learn academic and vocational skills in a democratic, non-hierarchical format. The school will teach all of the skills a student is expected to learn in High School in Baltimore City, and then some. It will address the realities of poverty and child rearing, which are often overlooked in a regular course of study, and find creative solutions for them.
The program will hopefully have a home, a full staff, and its first cohort of young people in the 2020-2021 school year. Currently, we are in the research stage. This website seeks to be a fairly comprehensive view of the research that is going into this program. There are a few headers at the top from which you can navigate the site.
