Welcome!

Ulimacho huvunacho is a Swahili saying, which means “what you sow, you will reap.”

The Ulimacho huvunacho program will be a democratically organized vocational school for teen parents, housed in a Baltimore City Public School. Adolescents will bring their infant children to the school for safe, certified child care, while they learn academic and vocational skills in a democratic, non-hierarchical format. The school will teach all of the skills a student is expected to learn in High School in Baltimore City, and then some. It will address the realities of poverty and child rearing, which are often overlooked in a regular course of study, and find creative solutions for them.

The program will hopefully have a home, a full staff, and its first cohort of young people in the 2020-2021 school year. Currently, we are in the research stage. This website seeks to be a fairly comprehensive view of the research that is going into this program. There are a few headers at the top from which you can navigate the site. Some have drop down menus, so if you don’t immediately see what you’re most interested in, please check those menus. Feel free to read, share, and comment!
